Recent study on medical health insurance in India shows that large pool of people in India is not able to finance their healthcare expenditure. Only 15% of Indian population is insured and rest 85% pays for medical expenses from their pocket. This shows the untapped potential in this sector. But if it continues, it will become difficult for uninsured individuals to avail quality medical treatment because medical costs are expected to go tremendously high over next few years.
Looking into the gravity of matter that Indian population would not be able avail quality healthcare, Indian Government combined with several other bodies should make serious steps to improve the condition of medical health insurance in India. It is only then that the Indian citizens could seek medical treatment without any financial stress.
Government should start several programs for the education of people. Medical care providers should also encourage people to buy health insurance. Regulators should frame guideline to allow only right players to enter the market. Health insurance providers should design products according to the healthcare needs of people. All these efforts will surely contribute lending helping hand in improving the condition of country and making medical treatment affordable.
Health Insurance providers need to study market before designing their products. It is only then that people could find them useful. Apollo Munich, a joint venture between the Apollo Group of hospital and Munich Health, is making efforts in design products accordingly. It has emerged with the aim to demystify health insurance for the people of India and thus, has brought simple policy wordings such that there could no jargons and thus, no confusion that could misdirect people while choosing a product.
In addition, Apollo Munich commits people to take the fear from faces, the jargon from words, the bitter from medicines and the trouble from treatment.
